Inhabit Sounds started as a project that invited people to listen to the sounds of London.
For our first project we created a site-specific installation on Parliament Hill (Hampstead Heath). We invited people to listen to the soundscape (audio-collage) through headphones – taking in the London’s diverse character by hearing the natural, mechanic, commercial and ceremonial elements of the city.
The project as a whole aims to encourage a pause, and listen tactic. Sounds often dictate our perceptions of space, our actions, and the rhythm that we move to. In this context, it can be useful to concentrate on sounds rather than focusing on what is now a visually orientated urban environment.
The central questions we ask:
- Whose city is this?
- How do we make it our own?
